If you workout, then you absolutely must make sure that you wear a supportive sports bra to prevent breast sag. Whether you’re breasts are a perky size A or droopy D, your sports bra should fit you snug-as-a bug-in-a-rug. Your breasts should have little or no bounce when you’re doing any strenuous aerobic activity such as running or High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).
Repeated bouncing causes your breast tendons, Cooper’s tendons, and tissue to stretch resulting in sagging or more commonly known as “Cooper’s Droop” (named after Dr. Cooper who discovered this sad sagging syndrome). Even if your breasts have started to sag, it’s important to prevent further sagging by making sure you always wear a supportive and well-fitting sports bra. Plus, wearing a good sports bra helps lift your breasts, which will make them appear perkier and younger!
You may have to pay a little more money for a good supportive bra, but it will do wonders for your sagging breasts. (A great fitting supportive bra will also give you a little extra mental support too by camouflaging any flaws that you may not like.)
Here’s our Checklist for how to choose the most supportive workout bra:
- Jog up and down in the changing room with the sports bra. Make sure your breasts bounce very little or at all.
- Make sure each breast is housed in a separate cup. Otherwise, you’ll end up with that uncomfortable (Akkk!) uni-boob look.
- Make sure your breasts are supported from underneath, and not from the shoulder straps of the bra.
- Look to make sure the bra dries easily on the care label.
When choosing material for sports bras, choose fitness clothing fabric does not get soaked or saturated, because wetness leads to chafing—especially underneath your bra.
